There are some amazing young people out exploring the world right now on their bicycles, and the Bicycle Travel Network is honored to be able to assist them in their adventures through the means of small micro-scholarships and promotional support.
The Bicycle Travel Network is an organization created by author/adventurer Alastair Humphreys, food-connoisseur Tom-Kevill Davies, writer/photographer Kate Harris, and yours truly, Darren Alff, to both connect and assist these young adventurers in their epic world travels.
Take, for example, 27-year-old Kate Maloney, an Australian native living in Ireland who is currently on the road, traveling by bike through Europe and Asia. She has a goal of raising $160,000 USD for two charities that are close to her heart: SUSTRANS, the UK’s leading sustainable transport charity, and GROW, an organization that helps people who have suffered, or are suffering, from mental health problems.
Another good example is 26-year-old Coralie De Rasle. This French native had her bicycle and all of her belongings stolen on her very first day in Bogotá, Colombia. But she mustered up the courage to stay in the country, buy a new bike, and continue on her way. Today, Coralie is still making her way through South America; her outlook on life, despite her negative setback, is surprisingly positive.
And then there is 23-year-old John Cristiani, who's planning to cycle from British Columbia, Canada, across the United States to the southernmost tip of Florida. Riding with him is his girlfriend, Olivia. Along the way, the young couple will not only get to see some of North America's finest places, but they'll be pushed to their limits (both mentally and physically), be compelled to spend countless hours together, and meet a lot of new and interesting people.Young adventurers like Kate Maloney, Coralie De Rasle, John Cristiani, and others are not only partaking of incredible personal adventures by bike; they're inspiring other people to learn about the world in which we live and reap the benefits that come with long-distance bicycle travel.
